Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM)

What is MBKM?

MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) is part of the “Merdeka Belajar” policy initiated by Nadiem Makarim, the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) of the Republic of Indonesia. Kampus Merdeka grants students the opportunity to engage in learning activities outside their study program or campus, with credits equivalent to 20 Semester Credit Units (SKS) for a one-semester duration (16 weeks). Students are allowed to participate in MBKM activities outside the campus for a maximum of two semesters, earning up to 40 SKS.

Objective

By granting the right to study outside their study program or campus, MBKM creates opportunities for students to hone their skills based on their interests, talents, and competencies. The opportunity helps them to achieve learning outcomes through direct engagement with industries, professional environment, or broader society—preparing them for future careers.

Target

The MBKM program in the English Studies Program targets active students in their 5th semester or higher. This aligns with the internal curriculum of the English Studies Program at UGM, as most compulsory courses are completed by the 5th semester. The completion of compulsory courses ensures that participation in MBKM will not extend the students’ study period.
