English Studies Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada held an orientation meeting, POPSI 2022, for newly accepted students on the 16th and 18th of August 2022 at Soegondo Building in the presence of the Head of Study Program, Dr. Adi Sutrisno, all lecturers, and the MBKM team. POPSI, which stands for Pekan Orientasi Program Studi Sastra Inggris, is an annual event that introduces new students to various programs and possibilities given by the institution or the government, such as Kampus Merdeka. A great deal of critical and fundamental information concerning rules and policies was also provided. The event also included a consultation with the MBKM team so that participants may raise direct questions concerning Kampus Merdeka and receive direct responses from the MBKM team. Given that this event was arranged by the IMAJI, the Student Association of English Studies Program, the questions were submitted via the IMAJI Instagram account. The MBKM team will choose and respond to the questions most likely to be addressed. Throughout the consultation session, the students displayed enthusiasm and flooded the IMAJI Instagram account with countless questions.
In addition, IMAJI also organized a sharing session with several alumni and one student of the English Literature Department at UGM. The alumni are Andrew Yudha, a founder of English Discovery; Giartina Sulistyorini, a language teacher in South Korea; and Niken Terate Sekar, a renowned writer. Monica Audrey Widiany Kusteja Putri delivered her experience as an English Studies Programme who joined an IISMA programme in Pennsylvania. They discussed their post-graduation experience with the incoming students and provided insight into their potential futures. This seminar inspired the students and provided them with fresh perspectives on life after graduating from the English Literature Department at UGM. Not only did this event provide several benefits for newly admitted students, but it also served as a forum for alumni reunions.
